What will happen now that Hazel's grandparents have shown up? Read on to find out.

The official description from Image:

Collecting the epic second storyline of the smash hit series Entertainment Weekly called "the kind of comic you get when truly talented superstar creators are given the freedom to produce their dream comic." Thanks to her star-crossed parents Marko and Alana, newborn baby Hazel has already survived lethal assassins, rampaging armies, and alien monstrosities, but in the cold vastness of outer space, the little girl encounters her family's greatest challenge yet: the grandparents.

The first volume of Saga proved why it's one of the most loved series out the now, and this volume just continues to back this up. The way that it's followed from the gripping cliffhanger at the end of volume one, giving yet another exciting and emotion driven tale is simply fantastic and if the series continues to progress this way I can't see it slowing down anytime soon.

Brian K. Vaughan continues to give a truly breathtaking experience with this volume, giving some wonderful developments for out main characters, whilst also having some interesting sub plots for the accompanying cast. Vaughan also creates some intriguing and entertaining interactions throughout this volume, with the inclusion of Marko's parents adding a lot of tension and intensity to the story. The narration also continues to impress, with it once again giving a very unique and deep tone to the series. Added to this the introduction of more new characters along with yet another gripping cliffhanger and I can't wait till volume three is released.

Fiona Staples also continues to impress with her astonishing artwork, with the detail yet again being to a very high standard. Staples also produces some terrific layouts, which help the story flow very smoothly (especially between issues). It was however the way that Staples showed the characters emotions through the facial expressions that appealed to me the most, as it gave so much tone and realism to the series, also adding more drama as well. If that wasn't enough the colours were also once again fantastic, with Staples giving continuing to give the perfect overtone and finish to her art.

Saga continues to be a very exciting and dramatic series, having some amazing developments. It also has wonderful characters with unique personalities, and I for one don't know if I can wait till volume three is released as it is that good that it's hard to wait. Highly recommended.

Saga Volume 1 Review

Writer: Brian K. Vaughan
Artist: Fiona Staples

What will happen when two members from warring alien races have a child? Read on to find out.

The official description from Image:

From New York Times bestselling writer BRIAN K.VAUGHAN (Y: THE LAST MAN, EX MACHINA) and critically acclaimed artist FIONA STAPLES (MYSTERY SOCIETY, NORTH 40), SAGA is the sweeping tale of one young family fighting to find their place in the worlds. When two soldiers from opposite sides of a never-ending galactic war fall in love, they risk everything to bring a fragile new life into a dangerous old universe. Fantasy and science fiction are wed like never before in a sexy, subversive drama for adults. This specially priced volume collects the first arc of the smash hit series The Onion A.V. Club calls "the emotional epic Hollywood wishes it could make."

Since it's release there's been nothing but praise for Saga, and due to this I personally had to try it. It may have taken a while but I am far from disappointed, as although there are a few series that live up to the high praise, there are few that do it quite as well as Saga.

Brian K. Vaughan creates something magical here, introducing the main characters in a very unique way. Vaughan also adds a lot of depth to the series through the unique narration, with the story being told by the couples child in a memoir fashion. I personally however was most interested at how much trouble this forbidden love has caused, with the main characters and their child having to go on the run in perilous conditions. Added to this the intense development points along with the uniqueness of each race and it's hard not to love this series.

The best thing about this series was the art, with Fiona Staples creating some phenomenal work, with detail to the highest of standards. Staples also created a very dynamic and impact layout for the series as well, with it helping the flow of the story brilliantly. The facial expressions along with the exciting action and stunning scenery was also very appealing, giving a very lively tone to the series. On top of all this Staples also produced some fantastic inks and colours, and due to having control over her own colours it gave a very vibrant finish to her already stunning artwork.

Saga proves to be one of the best romance/adventure series ever, proving that you can have spectacular romances in comics without them making the series too cute or dull. Highly recommended.
