A fourth instalment of Rush Hour is reportedly in the works, with a new film starring Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker being pitched to several studios. The only problem that comes from this is that it looks as if controversial director, Brett Ratner is attached to return to the franchise.
As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, the film was apparently presented to Lionsgate, with the studio holding a meeting to discuss the project back in July of this year. The idea of working on a fourth instalment appears to appeal to Lionsgate, with the studio seeing the nostalgic action comedy franchise as something to compliment its already successful John Wick series. The only problem with getting it off the ground is the potential involvement of Ratner, who has been absent from Hollywood since accusations of sexual misconduct.
Having faced multiple allegations of sexual misconduct and harassment during the #metoo movement back in 2017, Ratner has continuously denied any wrongdoing, with no criminal charges being brought against him. Despite this the director would see himself dropped by his agency, having yet to make a film since. Due to the controversy surrounding this, then distributors Warner Bros. would allow the licence to go elsewhere, with the likes of Paramount and Sony passing on the opportunity given the prospect of Ratner's involvement.
The film's stars, Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker aren't officially attached to return for Rush Hour 4, but have both previously expressed interest in a return to the franchise.
