New Avengers #12 Review

Infinity was an amazing event and although I felt that it was the right length, I am still sad that it's ended. We do however get one more instalment in the form of this epilogue, and although I usually feel epilogues are unnecessary and at times purely to make more money, with it being New Avengers I'm sure this one will be good.

Plot

In the aftermath of defeating Thanos, Black Panther has to face some questions over his alliance with Namor while the other Illuminate members have their own personal tasks to attend to.

Review

This was an amazing issue and one of the best epilogue issues to an event that I've read in a while. Jonathan Hickman does a superb job of both following in the aftermath of Infinity, whilst also setting up future events for both the Marvel Universe as a whole, as well as certain Illuminati members personally, with this being a suspenseful issue with a lot of drama. Hickman would also add a lot of excitement and emotion to this issue, as although there wasn't any action it had a lot of tension and intensity, which in itself created some excitement. It is however still only an epilogue with nothing too amazing happening, hence it isn't quite the perfect issue.

The artwork on this issue was also spectacular with Mike Deodato Jr. as usual doing a phenomenal job. The detail in his art would also be very consistent throughout with very few imperfections, if any at all. The best thing about Deodato Jr.'s art would be his layouts which were simply breathtaking, adding a lot of depth and atmosphere to the issue. I was however still not a fan of the way that Deodato. Jr drew Beast, as although it didn't bother me quite as much in this issue, the oversized look of him still makes it feel slightly unrealistic, especially as he's not as big in other series'. The character emotion and facial expressions throughout would however be great adding yet more depth to the issue.

Black Panther's alliance with Namor as part of the Illuminati would come to haunt him in this issue as Shuri and the Dora Milaje question Black Panther over consorting with the Namor the leader of their enemy. Now it was only a matter of time before this came to affect Black Panther, and the way it was handled in this issue was very interesting. Now I won't go into too much detail as to avoid spoilers, but it is certainly not quite what I expected, though it was the natural direction to take this development in, and I will be looking forward to seeing how this will affect Namor and Black Panther's relationship as Illuminati members.

Doctor Strange would be affected a lot during the Infinity event, and this issue would see the Doctor take some measures to rectify this. Yet again I won't go into too much detail but I will say that the sequence had a very eeire and dark tone to it, and I am definitely looking forward to seeing if/how this will affect the series going forward and whether we'll see a change in Doctor Strange from now on. During the sequence itself I also found the interaction between Doctor Strange and Wong set-up this development brilliantly.

Finally Iron Man (Tony Stark), Mr. Fantastic and Beast would remain to talk with Black Swan. Now much like the previous two paragraphs I won't go into too much detail as this is probably the most interesting sequence in the issue and I'd hate to spoil it for anyone. I did however find the tone as well as the dialogue to be very interesting, adding a lot of depth and tension to the issue. I also loved Black Swan's attitude as a whole to be very intriguing and I look forward to seeing what Hickman has in store for her as this series develops beyond Infinity.

Final Verdict

This was a terrific issue and a brilliant epilogue. It would also set-up the future of this series perfectly, utilising the events of Infinity to do this. The issue itself would be very dramatic and exciting, and would have a lot of suspense as well with it's overall tone being simply perfect. Due to this I'd highly recommend this issue as well as the whole of the Infinity event and can't wait to see what will happen in this series next.

Infinity #6 Review

Infinity has been an outstanding event and much better than I originally expected it to be, which is saying a lot considering I always expected it to be amazing. It is however sad to see it come to an end, but it is this shorter series length that I feel has ultimately made it a huge success and it will be interesting to see the fall out after this.

Plot

The Avengers finally make it back to Earth where they face Thanos and his Cull Obsidian.

Review

This was an amazing issue and a terrific ending to the event. Jonathan Hickman has done a phenomenal job with this event, and although there was the odd minor thing that I questioned during this finale, overall it was very fitting and entertaining to read. The tension and drama throughout was simply outstanding with the tone being simply astonishing. I did however feel that a couple of things happened rather suddenly, with the ending itself being very sudden. The narrative of the issue as well as the way it was developed was also outstanding, with the dialogue throughout adding more depth and drama as well as more excitement and intensity.

The artwork throughout this issue would also be phenomenal with both Jim Cheung and Dustin Weaver doing a spectacular job. The detail of both artists work would also be very consistent throughout, as although it was easy to tell both artists work apart, they worked very well of each other, with very few imperfections between them. I did however overall prefer Cheung's artwork, though that is nothing against Weaver's, it's just that Cheung's is more smoother and impactful. I did however find the lack of hair on Cheung's Hulk to be slightly frustrating, though the beautiful and explosive action sequences and character emotion more than made up for that.

We'd finally get to see the Avengers vs. Thanos and his Cull Obsidian in this issue with the Avengers wasting no time in taking the fight to the mad Titan after landing on Earth. Now what I loved most about this would be getting to see the likes of Captain America, Hulk and Thor all go toe-to-toe with Thanos, as although they've done it before, it is always nice to see it time and time again. During the fight I also loved the dialogue and how the Cull Obsidian's involvement would make this much more exciting and intense, with this easily being the fight of the event.

Whilst this is happening that other Avengers would continue battling Black Dwarf and his army on the Peak, finishing the fight that was set-up and started during Avengers #22 and 23. Now I personally felt that this sequences was developed for too long, and could have finished during the Avengers issues themselves. In saying that it would add yet more suspense and excitement to this issue, as well as yet more suspense as well, with some of the dialogue once again being outstanding.

Thanos' son Thane would have a huge role in the way that this event ended. Now I won't go into details but I will say what I thought of the ending as well as Thane's role in the event as a whole. Now Thane's involvement overall hasn't been quite as impactful as I hoped, though the way that he was involved in this issue made up for that. I also found the ending to be very clever, as although it wasn't as exciting as I hoped it would be, as well extremely sudden, it would be very dramatic and intense.

Final Verdict

This was a terrific ending to a outstanding event and it will be a while before Marvel top this. The issue wasn't quite perfect, feeling slightly too quick a pace, though the action and tension throughout would make it a extraordinarily great issue as well as one of the best from the crossover. Due to all this I'd highly recommend this issue as well as the event as a whole.

Guardians of the Galaxy #6 Review

I've fallen behind on my Guardians of the Galaxy reviews as of late, but I've finally gotten round to catching up on them. The series as a whole has been amazing as although it's not always been brilliant, having had the odd poor issue, it has always been fun and enjoyable to read.

Plot

As Star-Lord (Peter Quill) talks with Thanos the Guardians of the Galaxy continue their fight with Angela.

Review

This was an amazing issue and a brilliant continuation from the last issue. Brian Michael Bendis did a tremendous job of making this issue relatively new reader friendly whilst also continuing from the explosive events of the last issue. Bendis would also add a lot of excitement to this issue itself, as every sequence would be exciting to a certain extent, with the main fight being the most explosive of these. Besides that the issue would flow very smoothly also keeping the fun tone that I've enjoyed so much, with the dialogue once again being simply wonderful, with Iron Man (Tony Stark) and Rocker Raccoon adding a lot of humour.

The artwork in this issue would also be fantastic, with both Sara Pichelli and Olivier Coipel both doing an amazing job. The detail in this issue was simply outstanding, being very consistent throughout. What I loved most about the artwork however was the smooth transition between the two artists, as although I could easily tell the difference between both artists, the styles worked well next to each other, and although I prefer Coipel's art in general, it was nice that Pichelli's managed to stand out as the star of this issue. On top of that the layouts from both artists would also be spectacular adding a lot of tone and depth to the issue, with the two main encounters being very intense and exciting.

This issue would start with the Watcher being surprised about Angela's presence in the Marvel Universe. Now although the Watcher is sometimes used unnecessarily, it is always interesting to see him make an appearance, as it usually means that something interesting will happen. I especially enjoyed his appearance in this issue, and loved the reaction that he had to Angela, as it's not often that you see the Watcher shocked. I also felt that his presence in this issue helped to make it more new reader friendly for anyone that missed the previous issue.

This issue would also feature the continuation of Gamora's battle with Angela, with the rest of the Guardians of the Galaxy getting involved as well. Now this was easily the best part of the issue, as although the start of the fight in the last issue was exciting, it would be even more so now that the other members of the Guardians of the Galaxy were involved. The sequence would also be made even more entertaining with the amazing dialogue, with Rocket Raccoon once again adding a lot of humour to the series, with Tony and Groot adding some humour themselves.

Besides the fight I was mostly looking forward to seeing the encounter between Peter and Thanos that was teased at the very end of the last issue. Now although this sequence was overshadowed slightly by the amazing fight that I just talked about, it would still be very exciting, having a very intense tone throughout. Bendis would also do a brilliant job with Thanos himself, as although he has been the focused heavily in the Infinity event, Bendis would do a good job of utilising him in this story as well, with the interaction flowing very smoothly, as well as being very interesting.

Final Verdict

This was a fantastic issue and a brilliant continuation from the explosive events of the last issue. It would also have a lot of excitement in it's own right, with some intense sequences and amazing encounters. The dialogue would also be outstanding adding a lot of drama and humour to the issue, keeping the fun tone that I love most about this series perfectly. Due to all this I'd highly recommend this issue as it was truly amazing.

Infinity #5 Review

So far Infinity has been an amazing event, and easily one of the best that Marvel has produced in a while. It has especially been brilliant in the last couple of issues, having some phenomenal moments, and if Jonathan Hickman keeps this quality up it could become one of the best events ever.

Plot

The Avengers continue to save world after world from the Builders whilst Thanos tries to make the Illuminati's Antimatter Projection Systems work.

Review

This was a brilliant issue and although it wasn't quite as good as the last couple of issues, it was still a fantastic issue and did a fantastic job of setting up the conclusion. Now it isn't a terrible thing that Jonathan Hickman has slowed the pace down in this issue, as after all the explosive events in the last couple of issues it needed to slow down slightly, and with this being the penultimate issue it is better to do all the building up in this issue, leaving more room for excitement in the conclusion. Besides this however Hickman would also manage to add a lot of drama and suspense, as although the transition between sequences wasn't quite as smooth as it's been up till now, it wouldn't hurt the quality of the issue that much.

The art on this issue was also amazing, as although it wasn't quite as good as it has been up till now, it was still brilliant, and Jerome Opeña and Dustin Weaver did a tremendous job. I did however feel that the detail in this issue wasn't as good as it has been up till now, as although the detail was brilliant throughout most of the issue, there were quite a few imperfections, which is something that we haven't seen too much from Opeña and Weaver so far. The layouts were however once again outstanding, adding a lot of depth and tone to the issue. The small bit of action and character emotion would also be fantastic, with one sequence featuring the Hulk smashing being truly phenomenal.

This issue would start by showing the aftermath of Infinity #4 and Avengers #21 with the Avengers wiping out any remaining Builders, making many Avengers Worlds. Now this wouldn't do much for the story as a whole, setting up the Avengers return to Earth. It was however still very entertaining and interesting, and I found the interaction between Thor and Captain America to be very entertaining. The conversation between Cap and Oracle was also very interesting, and I loved Cap's shock to the appreciation of the planets they're saving.

We'd also get to see the first encounter between Thane and a member of the Cull Obsidian as Ebony Maw would find Thane in this issue. Now I won't go into much detail about this sequence as the major development during it was extremely interesting, even if it was also mainly set-up work. The interaction between Thane and Ebony Maw however was very interesting, and I especially enjoyed the emotion on Thane when he realises that he's a killer just like his father (even though he didn't mean to). 

Thanos would also have an impact on this issue, with him and his Cull Obsidian trying to get the Antimatter Projection Systems to work. This would be the continuation of a development that happened in New Avengers #11, and although this issue wouldn't see a lot of development happen, it would still be very interesting to read. I especially enjoyed how much intensity Thanos showed in this sequence, as although he wouldn't be as angry or intense as he was during his fight with Black Bolt, he would still show his disapproval of failure, expecting his Cull Obsidian to find the answer quicker than they are. I also loved seeing the malice in Thanos' facial expressions, as it would add a lot of depth to the sequence.

Final Verdict

This was yet another amazing issue in the Infinity crossover, as although it wasn't quite as good as the last couple of issues, being a bit slower, it did do a brilliant job of setting up the conclusion. The would also be some interesting developments, as well as some explosive artwork, and the issue as a whole has me very excited for the conclusion. Due to this I'd highly recommend this issue as although not quite as good as the last couple of issues it was still an amazing addition to the event.

New Avengers #11 Review

This has so far been an amazing series, and the Infinity event has made it even better, and so far has been one of the best events that Marvel has produced in years. The New Avengers and Avengers tie-ins however have also been wonderful, and for the first couple of months the New Avengers parts stood out as the best the event had to offer, though the main event itself has rightfully taken over that spot for now.

Plot

The Illuminati are taken to another universe where they meet a different set of Builders. Meanwhile Proxima Midnight goes to war with Wakanda.

Review

This was an amazing issue, as although it wasn't quite as good as the previous New Avengers Infinity tie-ins, it was still brilliant, being extremely interesting and exciting throughout. Jonathan Hickman so far has done a great job of balancing the three main series involved in this event, as although New Avengers and Avengers style and tone make it obvious that they're tie-ins, they also add more depth to the story as a whole. Hickman would also give some very interesting developments in this issue that played off this weeks Avengers issue perfectly, without spoiling it for anyone who decided to read this issue first. There was also a lot of excitement in this issue, and the end of this story is looking even more interesting.

The artwork in this issue was also fantastic, and Mike Deodato Jr. once again did a phenomenal job. The detail of Deodato Jr.'s art was also outstanding, as it was very consistent throughout, being simply perfect. The layouts of Deodato Jr.'s artwork was also once again brilliant, as it was very dynamic, and added a lot of excitement and depth to the issue. I also felt that Deodato Jr. handled the action in this issue perfectly, with it being very explosive and exciting, having a brilliant tone and atmosphere to it as well. I was however once again not a fan of how he drew Beast, as although he continues to improve with Thanos, I still feel that his version of the Beast is way too big, and too much like a gorilla.

The main development in this issue would be the Illuminati being taken by an Aleph of an other universe to meet with the Builders and Ex Nihili of another universe. This was probably the most interesting sequence in this issue, as although it may have not been the most exciting, it would have the most impact on the event as a whole. The interaction between these Builders and the Illuminati was very interesting and dramatic, and I especially enjoyed the different attitude that these Builders had. I was however not that fond of the different look for the Ex Nihili's though, as I much prefer the normal gold and black colour.

There would also be a big fight sequence as Proxima Midnight would lead an army against Wakanda, with the ultimate goal of finding the location of the missing Infinity Gem. This was easily the most exciting sequence in this issue, as although the Builders appearance had a more interesting development point, the action was simply amazing being very intense and exciting. I also loved the interaction between the Cull Obsidian prior to this, and the dialogue between Proximan Midnight and Black Panther (Shuri) throughout it added a lot of drama and suspense as well.

Thanos would also make an appearance in this issue, showing how he is continuing with his search for both Thane and the remaining Infinity Gem. Now the fight Thanos had with Black Bolt was amazing, so I was slightly surprised to see how calm he was in this issue, though this is Thanos so that fight would have probably been nothing to him. I did however enjoy seeing his interaction with his Cull Obsidian, and the discovery that he made in this issue was also very interesting, though his response to it was slightly disappointing, though worked perfectly with Thanos' characteristics.

Final Verdict

This was yet another fantastic tie-in issue, as although it wasn't quite as good as the previous tie-in issues that New Avengers has produced, it was still a very exciting and enjoyable issue. It also had some brilliant action, as well as having a lot of drama and suspense throughout. On top of that there was some very interesting developments that have me looking forward to Infinity #5 even more than I already was. Due to all this I'd highly recommend this issue, as well as the main Infinity event and the Avengers tie-ins as they are all truly amazing.

Infinity #4 Review

This has been a phenomenal crossover event so far, and although it took a while to become phenomenal, it has been brilliant since the start, with the main event as well as the Avengers and New Avengers tie-ins also being amazing. It did however jump to another level with the last issue, and I just hope that it continues to be great, as so far it has been the event that Marvel has needed for years.

Plot

As Captain America goes over his final plans with the Council, he sends Thor to negotiate their surrender. Meanwhile Thanos battles Blackbolt over the location of his son, Thane.

Review

This was yet another phenomenal issue, and this series has certainly moved up a level over the last couple of issues. Jonathan Hickman once again does a fantastic job of following on from both the last issue as well as the Avenger tie-in. Hickman also added a lot of drama and suspense in this issue, and although the start of the issue was slightly slow, it made up for that quickly, being very exciting for most of the issue. The dialogue in this issue was also terrific, and especially during the Thanos/Black Bolt fight, helping to add depth, as well as in this case tension. Hickman also once again did a brilliant job of balancing the two stories involved in this issue, allowing each to compliment the other.

The artwork in this issue was also fantastic, and Jerome Opeña and Dustin Weaver once again did an amazing job. The detail from both artists was spectacular as usual, being very consistent throughout. Both artists also compliment each other perfectly, as although I've always preferred Opeña's art slightly, Weaver's works perfectly alongside it, with both having very similar styles and tones. I also really enjoy how Weaver handled the Thanos/Black Bolt fight, as it was very exciting and explosive, and along with the layouts both artists produced for this issue, it was easily the best thing about the artwork. On top of all that both artists also did a fantastic job of showing the emotion in this issue, adding a lot of tone with it.

This issue would give us a deeper looking into Thanos' son, Thane, showing him as a healer in the Hidden City of Orollan. Now I won't go into too much detail as to avoid any spoilers, but this issue would give us a very good look at the character that has caused Thanos' wrath, also giving him some sort of origin as well. This was something that I really enjoyed, as after it was revealed that Thanos was looking for his son I was wondering what sort of role his son would play. Now this issue doesn't actually answer that question, but it would give a lot of development for the character, as well as hint at what his future may be.

Cause of Thane, Thanos and Black Bolt would become involved in a huge battle, that sees Thanos pushed to his very limits. This was a fight that I was looking forward to since the start of the series, and although I was expecting it to come a little later in the series, I'm going to complain, as it was a brilliant fight. I also liked that  due to Black Bolt battling Thanos in this fight it allowed him to use his full powers, not  back. I also loved the carnage that would come due to this fight, and the development that would come out of it. The fight itself was also very intense and exciting, adding a lot of entertainment to the issue.

The other part of this issue would see the Avengers try and negotiate some form of peaceful surrender with the Builders, with Captain America sending Thor to do the negotiating. Now the moment that it was revealed that Thor would be the negotiator I was very happy, as due to the cover I expected him to have a big involvement in this issue, and was glad that he did. Without going into any details I also really enjoyed the form of negotiation that Thor took, and this sequence turned out exactly as I expected, but in a very unique way, and overall this has been some of Hickman's smartest work on the event.

Final Verdict

This was an amazing issue, and so far this has easily been the best crossover event that Marvel has done in a long time. This issue itself had plenty of suspense and drama, with tons of excitement, and brilliant character depth. It also had a fantastic fight between Thanos and Black Bolt, and has really shaken up the development of the event. Due to all this I'd highly recommend this issue, as well as the rest of the series so far.

Marvel's Avengers Alliance Video Game Reveals Thane Son of Thanos

It appears that Playdom's Facebook game Avengers Alliance has revealed the identity of a key character from Infinity. This character is none other than the son of Thanos who's name is Thane.

The character was revealed as one of two unlockable characters for the current Special Op mission, with the other unlockable character being Black Bolt. He is stated to be a mysterious ally of the Inhumans who arrived during Thanos' invasion of earth. Thane can be obtained by collecting lockboxes that contain specific in game items. Once all these items are collected, and Thane is unlocked you're give more information from his bio:

“I used to be just a man. Just another healer, nobody of consequence, plying my trade among my people. And then Thanos arrived. How did I get these horrible powers? Why? Did they come from him? All I know is that just as he came to Earth, I... changed. Suddenly I had the power of life and death in my hands. But I could not control it, and the people around me paid the price. Everyone that I had once healed, everyone I knew... dead. I ran before I could kill again, only to find an even greater murderer in my path. Thanos and his lieutenants were coming... for me. This Thanos creature... what does he want from me? If I give myself up to him, will he stop killing people? Or will he just use my powers to kill even more? I need someone to help me understand what I am... what I've become. Is that you, Agent? Do you think you can control death itself? I doubt it. But the truth is, I have no other choice. I cannot go back to the way I was, and I cannot go to Thanos. That leaves me with you. But I warn you. Try to use my powers for evil, and I'll show you what they can do... in abundance.”

Thane as He Appears in the Game

Infinity #3 Review

I have really been enjoying Infinity so far, and after a couple of poor events I'm happy that Marvel have finally gotten their act together. The story has progressed brilliant so far, and the Avengers and New Avengers issues work as brilliant tie-ins, being crucial to the story.

Plot

The Avengers prepare for battle against the Builders whilst Black Bolt prepares to be confronted by Thanos.

Review

This was a phenomenal issue, and my favourite of the event so far. Jonathan Hickman has been doing an amazing job with this event as a whole, but what stood out for me in this issue was that it took the recent events in Avengers and New Avengers and expanded on them in a very explosive, and exciting way. I also loved how Hickman managed to keep some mystery in the event, as although he's revealing something shocking every now and then, he seems to still have some stuff kept up his sleeve. I also felt that this issue was very dramatic, and suspenseful, also having some brilliant dialogue, and interactions. I also loved how it's taken the story a major step forward, whilst leaving some fuel in the tank for the second half.

The art on this issue was once again done by Jerome Opeña and Dustin Weaver. Both artists once again did a fantastic job, and although I probably still preferred Opeña's artwork slightly there isn't a huge lot between the two artists. The detail by both artists was simply outstanding, with each sequence being stunning, and especially the ones centred around the Avengers in space. The action in this issue was also handled perfectly between both artists, literally being very explosive, as well as exciting, adding a lot more drama, and tone to the issue. Justin Ponsor also once again did an outstanding job of colouring this issue, and it's his colours that help keep the artwork more consistent.

The last issue of the Avengers would see the Builders learn the location of the Avengers, and the Galactic Council, making the planets in their way surrender to them. I found this to be a very interesting development, showing just how powerful the Builders were. I also enjoyed how it allowed for differences of priorities of the Council members, with some seeing surrender as the wise option, and others not wanting to be controlled, preferring to fight like a warrior, even if that means dying like one.

Even though some of the Council would leave, this didn't stop Captain America and his Avengers come up with a plan, taking the fight to the Builders. Now I won't go into much detail over what happens, but it was a very exciting development point, having some explosive moments. I also loved how suspenseful the sequence was, and how it made the event a bit more lively, as although there has been plenty of action so far, there hasn't been anything quite like this, also being a genius decision.

This issue would also see Thanos make his way to Attilan to confront Black Bolt. Now I won't go into any details over this sequence, as it happens quite a bit into the issue, and I'd prefer to avoid any spoilers anyway. As you would probably guess however, the encounter isn't too friendly, being extremely exciting, and suspenseful. It wasn't however quite as exciting as the Avengers doing battle with the Builders, but still exciting in it own way. It also ended on a brilliant note, leaving me extremely excited for the next part of this marvellous event.

Final Verdict

This was an amazing issue, and my personal favourite of the event so far. It had so much excitement, and suspense, as well as plenty of drama. The developments were also very dramatic, adding some energy to the event. It also had some brilliant action sequences, and has me hooked for the next part. Due to this it's easy to recommend this issue, and I'd also recommend the rest of the event as well.

New Avengers #10 Review

So far Infinity has been a fantastic event, and one of the best that Marvel has produced in recent years, with the main tie-ins being just as interesting as the main event, as well as slightly better at times. In fact the last issue of this is the best issue that I feel the event has produced so far.

Plot

Black Bolt has informed the rest of the Illuminati members about Thanos' secret son and how they must find him. Also Thanos isn't overall happy with the news that his Cull Obsidian have brought him.

Review

This was a fantastic issue, and although not quite as good as the last still one of the better Infinity has produced so far. Jonathan Hickman has been producing some of his best work on this event, as juggling one story over three series' can't be easy, but Hickman manages to do it brilliantly. This issue continues from where Infinity #2 left off as although some people haven't liked the development being through three series, I personally feel that they work into each other perfectly. This issue itself was very dramatic, and exciting, with amazing dialogue and encounters, though it didn't have too much development which stopped it from being perfect. 

The art in this issue was outstanding, and Mike Deodato, Jr. did a phenomenal job. The detail in his artwork is simply amazing, as everything looks so crisp and neat. I also loved the layout from Deodato Jr. in this issue, as well as the way he showed the characters emotions, as although it can be slightly stiff and awkward looking at times, for the majority of the issue it's amazing. I will however now move onto the small thing that bugged me, and that was how he drew Beast. The artwork itself was nice and brilliantly detailed, but I felt that he looked too much like a gorilla, also being way too big, dwarfing the rest of the Illuminati whilst sitting round a table. I did however prefer his artwork on Thanos this time round.

The last issue of Infinity would show that besides the remaining Infinity Gem, Thanos is also looking for his son, wanting him dead. That was an amazing development from the event, and I loved how it continued in this issue. I also found the discussion between Black Bolt, and his fellow Illuminati members to be very interesting, and their reaction to the news was also very enjoyable. I've also loved in general how Hickman has allowed Black Bolt a chance to speak without destroying everything nearby, and how he's becoming a key part of this story.

Ultimately Black Bolt would task his fellow Illuminati members with finding Thanos son, preventing his death. Now I won't go into too much discussion over how this affected the plot of this issue as to avoid spoilers, but I will say my thoughts on the discussion the remaining Illuminati members had once they left Black Bolt. The sequence itself was very dramatic, with plenty of suspense. It also had a brilliant atmosphere, and overall had a lot of tone to it, showing the different emotions of the Illuminati perfectly.

This issue would also see Thanos' Cull Obsidian return with the information they gathered. Now Thanos being apart of this event has been what I've been most interested in, but up till now I feel that we haven't seen him at his best, as although he's used people to do his work in the past, it's always better when he has a more hands on approach. This issue would however show more of the Thanos I love, as he would show his disgust at Black Dwarf's failure, also adding a lot of excitement to the issue.

Final Verdict

Although not quite as good as the last issue this was yet another brilliant instalment in the Infinity event, following on from Infinity #2 perfectly. The issue itself was very dramatic and exciting, though it did lack in action, being more of a set-up issue. I would however highly recommend this issue, and the event so far, and will be moving straight onto Infinity #3 which was also out this week.

Infinity #2 Review

So far Infinity has been amazing, but theAvengers, and New Avengerstie-ins has been what's stolen the show so far, being extremely entertaining, as well as developing the story in a perfect, but subtle way. Now Infinity continues and hopefully this is shaping up to be the Marvel event we deserve.

Plot

Following Thanos invasion of Earth, Corvus Glaive heads to Attilan in search of the remaining Infinity Gem. Meanwhile the Avengers continue their fight against the Builders.

Review

This was an amazing issue, and although it wasn't quite as good as the first issue, being slightly disappointing considering the phenomenal Avengers/ New Avengers tie-in issues, overall this was a very good issue, and a terrific continuation of the storyline. Jonathan Hickman has done a great job of allowing this storyline to flow throughout the three series' he works on whilst allowing them to re-root back to this issue, meaning that people who don't get the Avengers and New Avengers won't miss much, also adding a quick recap of both issues to help with that. The drama, and suspense in this issue was also outstanding, and Hickman has added the right tone to this story, also being exciting, and entertaining.

The art on this issue was divided between Jerome Opeña, and Dustin Weaver, both who have worked on the Avengers series prior. I have to say that although I love both artists work I have to give the edge to Opeña as his art is simply phenomenal. Weaver did however do a brilliant job as well, with both artists artwork being very highly detailed. I especially loved the emotion that both artists added to the characters, as it really allowed the story to come alive, and given the drastic events so far, this is really needed. The action was also handled perfectly by both artists, being very explosive, and exciting. I also loved the colouring from Justin Ponsor, and feel that it helps keep the same tone to the story.

This issue would see Corvus Glaive finally head to Attilan, where he gives Thanos' ultimatum. I found this to be very suspenseful, and exciting, as given the fact that Black Bolt was one of the few Illuminati members not to be personally targeted I expected something to happen here. The ultimatum itself was also very interesting, and typical of Thanos. There was however still a bit of mystery surrounding it, and the revelation that happened surrounding this later on in the issue was mind blowing.

It looked as if this issue was mainly going to centre around the events from New Avengers #9, and although it mostly did there was a continuation from last issue, and the developments Avengers #18 added. I initially was disappointed to see the Avengers retreating, as although this was probably the smart move, it just didn't feel right. I was however very happy when they returned to battle the Builders, and this sequence was simply amazing, also adding some interesting, and shocking developments to the story.

Gladiator also had a brilliant role in this issue, as with him being a part of this war against the Builders it was interesting to see his take on the situation. This itself was typical of Gladiator, and that's what I loved about it, as it was so true to the character, with his passion, and determination being above anyone else's (which is saying a lot when Captain America is nearby). I also loved that we got to see Gladiator in action alongside the Avengers, as it was simply astonishing.

Final Verdict

Although not quite as good as the last issue, this was still a tremendous continuation to the event, and it has certainly kept me excited about the series. The suspense, and drama throughout was simply outstanding, having some brilliant interactions, and leading to some shocking developments. Due to all this, added the brilliant action I would highly recommend this issue, and am looking forward to the next Avengers tie-in, and ultimately the next issue of this series.

New Avengers #9 Review

Now I haven't been reviewing this series, but due to the Infinity event I have decided to review this series, as well as the Avengers throughout the Infinity event, which so far has not disappointed.

Plot

As the Avengers are preparing for an invasion Thanos sends members of his Black Order to find the sole remaining Infinity Gem.

Review

This was an amazing issue, and easily the best this series has produced so far. Much like Avengers #18 Jonathan Hickman has managed to continue from the events of Infinity #1 perfectly, though this time round he's also managed to have that work in with the series events as well. The fact that the Illuminati didn't have a huge role in Infinity #1 probably helped as well, but the way that this series, and the Avengers compliment each other the now is simply wonderful. Besides that Hickman managed to add a lot of tone, and drama to this issue, as well as suspense, and excitement. The dialogue was also outstanding, adding depth, as well as atmosphere.

The art in this issue was also outstanding, and Mike Deodato, Jr. did an amazing job. The detail in Deodato Jr.'s artwork was simply brilliant, as everything looked perfect. The layout was also fantastic, adding a lot of depth, and tone to the issue, being very dynamic as well. I also loved how Deodato Jr. drew all the characters, with the only small exception being Thanos, who didn't look as awe-inspiring as he should do. The action was also handled perfectly, and I loved how much detail was in the artwork, with the excitement, and explosiveness of the sequence really standing out. I also loved the backgrounds in this issue, as along with all the action it added to the depth of the issue, also adding atmosphere.

This issue started with Thanos talking with his Black Order about holders of the Infinity Gems, and how all but one have been destroyed. I found this really interesting, and it also really excited me, as having anticipated the Infinity Gems having an involvement in Infinity, with it most likely happening in this series I was happy that it was the case. I also loved seeing Thanos again, as following his appearance in the first issue of Infinity I was really excited to find out more about his role in the event.

The Avengers learned in Infinity #1 that the Builders were heading to Earth, and Iron Man got the job of staying behind in case Captain America's team failed. Iron Man doesn't appear to have put a team together, as although he's working with Mr. Fantastic of the Illuminati, all the other members appear to be in their regular locations outside the team. Iron Man, and Mr. Fantastic however are prepared for an invasion, and are fighting it. I personally loved this, and enjoyed seeing the high tech setting for this sequence. I also loved the interaction between Iron Man, and Mr. Fantastic as well, as it was extremely interesting. I did however question who the invaders were, as although the Builders are the logical suspects, the issue also made it look like it may have been Thanos' army.

Whilst all this was happening Thanos' Black Order targeted Black Panther, Namor, Doctor Strange, and Beast individually, trying to find the location of the remaining Infinity Gem. This was an awesome collection of sequences, and I loved seeing how each character reacted to this treat differently. I especially loved the fight between Black Panther, and Black Dwarf, as well as the fight between Corvus Glaive, and Supergiant against the X-Men, though I did feel that Wolverine was focused on more than Beast in the later sequence, which it shouldn't have done.

Final Verdict

This was a brilliant issue, and a terrific tie-in. Being the best issue that this series has produced so far this issue was everything from exciting, to dramatic, also being suspenseful as well. There was also great action as well, which was very explosive. Due to all this I'd highly recommend this issue, and can't wait for issue two of Infinity.

Infinity #1 Review

This has been a series that I've been looking forward to for some time now, as with the disappointment of Age of Ultron, as well as the brilliant build-up in both Avengers, and New Avengers series I'm hoping that Marvel will deliver an amazing event.

Plot

Whilst the Builders head for Earth, Corvus Glaive sends an Outrider to hunt for information for Thanos, and the Avengers learn of the Builder's arrival.

Review

This was a brilliant start to this event, and although the issue wasn't perfect, it shows a lot of hope for it's future, and looks to be the start of something great. Jonathan Hickman has done a great job of building the start of this story, allowing people who haven't been following Avengers, or New Avengers to get a grasp of what's to come in this story without being too confused. He has however also thought of the people who have been reading them series, as this is a great continuation, and all the build-up that has been happening since the start of both series looks to be worth it. Hickman also added some suspense, and drama, but the mystery mainly ruled out, and he did a tremendous job of starting this story.

The art on this issue was simply outstanding, and when I heard that Jim Cheung would be one of the artists working on this series I was over the moon, as I love his work. His art was very highly detailed, with very few minor imperfection, which you'd only really notice if you were looking for them. I also loved how Cheung drew all the characters, and especially Thanos, and the Outrider, as both looked awe-inspiring. The Outrider just looked mean, and Alien like, whilst still being unique, whereas Thanos simply looked the powerhouse that he is, looking maniacal, and sinister. I also loved the layout of Cheung's art, as it added depth, and that along with the way he drew the space sequences made this issue very dynamic.

This issue would see the Builders make their way through the galaxy, with Earth one of the planets in their sights. Now I found it very interesting to see them in this issue, as with the way they've been introduced, and build upon from the Avengers series I was expecting them to have a role in this story. I didn't however expect quite this, and it was a nice surprise. I also found Ex Nihilo, and Abyss' reaction to the news of their arrival to be very interesting, and I question where there loyalties will lie, as although they've recently alligned themselves with the Avengers, this is the people who gave them life.

There would be a new creature introduced in this issue, as another new character called Corvus Glaive would use a creature known as an Outrider to gather information for Thanos. Now we saw a bit of this in the Free Comic Book Day issue, but I loved seeing it continued in this. I also loved the fact that this integrated the FCBD issue, as it allowed the events from that to make much more sense, as when I first read the FCBD issue it was a little confusing. I also loved seeing Thanos in this issue, as although he didn't do much he had great presence, and I look forward to seeing what he'll do in the following issues.

Both sets if Avengers would naturally be involved in this story, with the Illuminati making a small appearance at the start if the issue, and the main Avengers group featuring about half way through the issue. What I loved about their appearance in this story is that they've came into the story knowing that something is amiss, but not knowing quite what it is. Seeing the realisation of this throughout this issue would be very interesting, and suspenseful, as although I was hoping for a little more from them, this was the perfect start, as it's better to build from something that's average-good that start amazingly and slowly decrease in quality, so having things go gradually makes sense.

Final Verdict

This was a great opening issue, and although it wasn't quite what I expected, it was a brilliant way to open the event, as although it wasn't spectacular, it builds everything up nicely, giving a nice picture of what's to come. This also makes it relatively new reader friendly, as although reading Avengers, or New Avengers gives a better overall experience, it isn't essential to read them to understand this. The issue itself also had a lot of development points, keeping a aura of mystery, and I for one look forward to seeing where it goes next. I would highly recommend this issue, as although not phenomenal, it was great, and shows a lot of promise.

Thanos Rising #2 Review

I'm not the biggest Thanos fan in the world, but I've always been interested in the character, especially after the post-credit scene in The Avengers movie, so when I heard about this series I was happy, looking forward to learing more about the character, and his origins. The first issue however wasn't quite what I expected, but none the less still interesting, and the series looks to be at least good, if not great.

Plot

After learning all he can from his Professor, and creatures, and continues to try different creatures with the goal of discovering the secrets of the cosmos, as well as himself.

Review

This was a good issue, but to be honest I'm not entirely sure if I'm loving this series or not. Don't get me wrong, it's been very different, and interesting, and overall very enjoyable, but it's just not quite been what I was expecting, and that's what has me torn over my overall feelings. Usually a series not being as expected doesn't bother me too much, as to be honest there's very few series that 100% live up to your expectations, but this one being an origin story, and the story that I was wanting to drive me into becoming a Thanos fan I was expecting slightly more. Jason Aaron still did a fantastic job on this issue, and although it's not been better than the start of his Thor: God of Thunder series, it has been better than most of his recent work. What I've probably liked most about the series is that it's delved into showing Thanos' character, and emotions, showing how he wasn't always the evil tyrant that we see usually. At the same time I also think that this transformation from good to bad is taking a little too long, and if it takes the whole series to do this, there's every chance that it may become a bit dull, but I hope that it doesn't, and that we get some excitement.

The art in this issue was brilliant, and Simone Bianchi has once again done a fantastic job, as although I still dislike his art at times, overall it's amazing, and at times really gory. The main thing that I'm still not 100% happy with Bianchi's art is the way he draws Thanos himself, as although I love his covers, which show the very maniacal, and sinister older Thanos, the younger Thanos sometimes looks too gruesome, which although that isn't bad, I still don't love it. The layout of Bianchi's artwork was however brilliant, giving so much more suspense, and drama to the story, also showing just the right amount of sinisterness in Thanos to show that he's changing, but at the same time showing that he's wanting to be good. I also love how this more darker, grittier look to Thanos helps Aaron's story, as it really harnesses all the tone's that a series like this needs, as he knows when to make the art darker, and when to also make it look more light heartened. The colours from Ive Svorcina also really help to show, and highlight this as well. The detail in Bianchi's art was also amazing, as although there were little things that didn't quite look right, the majority of it looked amazing, and the detail was brilliant, including both the small details, and normal details.

This issue mainly sees Thanos trying to learn the secrets of the cosmos, as well as himself. Now although this was needed to show the story, and development, I feel that this was what made the story slightly slow, and at times dull. In saying that I still found the way that Thanos would progress his learning, not seeing the need for a Professor interesting, and it really showed the intelligence, and individuality of Thanos, whilst also hinting that not everything's right with this child. The overall tone to all this was also perfect, and although it was slightly slow at times, Aaron, and Bianchi did a brilliant job, and to be honest I'm not sure it would be possible to do better without changing the entire story.

WARNING: MINOR SPOILER AHEAD!

This goal to learning the secrets of the cosmos would lead to Thanos moving up to kill people, trying to learn what he can from them. Now this was the turning point for Thanos, as although his decision to kill the lizards in the last issue showed that he'd started to become a killer, this was the final straw to be broken in showing that he enjoyed killing. What probably interested me the most was that although it became apparent that Thanos liked killing, he also still appeared to have a conscience, as he feels remorse, and regret over killing, yet still enjoys it, which I felt was perfect, as it shows the type of character he truly is, whilst also showing that there's still the hint of humanity.

Last issue saw Thanos introduced to a mysterious girl, who appears to be the bad influence that sways him into becoming evil. Now due to my knowledge on Thanos being small, and nowhere near as vast as it should be I had no idea who this girl was, and was puzzled, as long time fans of the character, as well as people who know their Thanos history did. Without looking into, or having any discussions about the character I do however think that I know who it is, as after looking up more of Thanos back history it appears to be fairly obvious, although I could be wrong. I won't spoil it for anyone that was like me and clueless, but who unlike me want to keep it a secret, but if you are interested in who I think it is PM me. Anyway, this issue would see the continuation of their relationship, and Thanos appears to want to take it to the next step, wanting the girl to love him. Something that she doesn't mutually agree on. Now this was interesting, and at the same time made me think that my guess on who this person is is right, and at the same time it also shows another reason for Thanos to become evil, as for someone to feel unloved it must be hard not to slip further down a dark path.

WARNING: MINOR SPOILERS AHEAD!

Now there isn't huge spoilers in this next section, but I just thought I'd warn you as they are still spoilers. Now there are two character's, Sogarth, and Loktus that go missing, and Thanos' father, Mentor, and his father Kronos discuss this matter, with Kronos believing that they've been murdered, and Mentor not wanting to believe that such a thing could happen on Titan. I found this very interesting, and although it takes away from the actual development of Thanos, it does show how a things are discussed on Titan, and I am interested to see what Mentor, and Kronos have to say if/when they find out the truth.

Final Verdict

Although this series isn't perfect, it is however still interesting, and I still have hopes that it will become exciting. Although slow the developments of this younger Thanos are also very interesting, and I for one am loving learning how this evil creature wasn't always evil, and why he's became evil. I'd recommend this issue, as well as the previous issue to anyone, as although some people aren't happy that this origin, which they like to remain a mystery is being told, is being told, I personally think it's perfect for anyone whether Thanos fan or not, as it is moving at times, and shows how easily someone can change.

Thanos Rising #1 Review

Although not the biggest fan of Thanos I have been a fan of his for quite a while now, and have began to like him even more in recent years, but I still shamefully don't know as much about him as I should, and when I heard about this origin story I was happy as it'd be a good point to learn more about his background, something that I know hasn't been to far developed in the past.

Plot

Thanos is born on Titan, and is the son of Mentor, and Sui-San. He grows up wanting to be a scientist like his father Mentor, and vows not to kill any creature, so what makes him become this evil villain?

Review

This was an excellent issue, and although it wasn't exactly what I was expecting, it was still very good, and a brilliant opening issue to this mini series. Jason Aaron has done some brilliant work in the past, having had a brilliant run on Wolverine, and currently doing a marvellous job on Thor: God of Thunder, but his Incredible Hulk series was very disappointing, and his Wolverine and the X-Men series became boring real quickly, so I wasn't too sure how he'd fare on Thanos, but so far he's done a fabulous job, and I hope he keeps this level of quality throughout. What I liked most about Aaron's writing was that he portrayed a different side to Thanos than we've seen before, which was nice, but I'll talk more about that later on in my review.There was however the odd moment were this issue was slightly slow, but with this being the opening issue of an origin story it's expected, and it wasn't that bad, with the rest making up. I also felt that Aaron handled the birth of Thanos brilliantly, as there was plenty of emotion in his birth, and that was a very interesting, dramatic, and entertaining sequence.

I wasn't too sure what to make of the art, as I liked some points, but disliked others. Overall I feel that Simone Bianchi has done a very good job on the art in this issue, and although I'm in tow minds whether I like it, I do think that it's unique, and better than a lot of other artists. I've loved Bianchi's his work in the past, both interiors, and covers, and especially his work on Wolverine, but at the same time I've felt that his art hasn't always suited everything, as I didn't feel his art suited the likes of the Green Lantern issue he drew, but overall I've enjoyed his art over the years. Most of the art I loved, but the only real thing I questioned whether I liked was the way he drew Thanos, as he was awful grotesque, and much more gruesome looking than he usually is, and although this wasn't necessarily a bad thing I wasn't entirely sure if it was a good thing. I did however like how it was unique though, and overall his style suits this type of story. The detail in Bianchi's art was also brilliant, and the emotion was also fabulous, as you could really see innocents in the younger Thanos, which was nice. The colours from Simone Peruzzi were also fantastic, and really helped set the tone for this series, making it look even more beautiful.

I'll take this opportunity to talk about the credits page, and the page that preceded that, as it continues to have the same motive that all the cosmic series have had showing the vastness of space, and I liked how this time it had Saturn as the sole planet (as Titan is a moon of Saturn). Now the credit page doesn't really have anything to do with the quality of the issue, but I thought that I'd mention it due to it being the motive that the Marvel cosmic books have shown.

The birth of Thanos was probably the best thing in this issue, and I really enjoyed it, and felt that Aaron handled it perfectly. As far as I know the actual origin of Thanos hasn't been fully shown, or at least how he was born (although I may be wrong), so it was nice to see it in this series, and especially with it being an origin story. What I loved most about this sequence was how the characters involved were divided as some felt that he was a monster that should be killed, whereas his father felt that he was beautiful, and prevented anything bad from happening. I also liked how before this we saw Thanos return to his home world, and reminisce about his past, which was a brilliant way to open the issue, and the birth just continued making the opening even better.

The child version of Thanos was also a curious thing, as he was very different than the adult version we've came to know over the years, as he is much more innocent, vowing never to kill a living creature, which is very different from the adult version of Thanos. I also found it very interesting how he all of a sudden started to make friends, and was curious as to whether they were true friends or just friendly due to who is father was. Either way it was a brilliant addition, as it continued to show the innocent side to this younger Thanos, and as I continued reading I started to ask about what sort of thing could turn something so innocent into a violent monster? But I guess that's what the series is going to focus on, and look forward to finding out.

There was another character that neither acted as friend or enemy to Thanos, but did seem to try and manipulate him, seeming to know what his destiny was. I found this woman very interesting, and although I know nothing about her, with nothing much really being explained I did find her very intriguing, and interesting. I do however look forward to seeing more of her, and learning who she is, and what she hopes to gain from manipulating Thanos (besides the obvious).

Final Verdict

Although not a perfect issue, this was a brilliant opening to this new mini series that explores the origins of one of Marvel's biggest villains, Thanos. It also makes for the perfect starting point for new readers of Thanos, as it will give brilliant insight into the character, making you understand him more, which is brilliant considering he'll play a big part in the Infinity story arc. I would highly recommend this issue, and look forward to seeing it progress, and hope it keeps this level of quality, or gets even better.
